WACKER® Silicone Fluids AK, AS and AP – Overview
WACKER® silicone fluids are clear, colourless and odourless liquids based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). They are water-repellent, chemically inert and retain their properties over a wide temperature range. The three types differ in their phenyl content and therefore in their field of application.
WACKER® AK – Standard Silicone Fluid
- Linear PDMS without phenyl content
- Viscosities from 0.65 to 1,000,000 mm²/s
- Temperature range: approx. −60 °C to +200 °C
- Applications: release agent and lubricant, lubricating and damping fluid, water repellency, thinning of RTV-2 silicones (reduces viscosity and Shore hardness)
WACKER® AS – for Low Temperatures
- PDMS with low phenyl content
- Temperature range: approx. −70 °C to +200 °C
- Applications: lubricating, damping and hydraulic fluid at very low temperatures
WACKER® AP – Phenyl Silicone Fluid
- PDMS with high phenyl content, available e.g. as AP 100, 150, 200, 500 and 1000
- Temperature range: approx. −35 °C to +200 °C
- Applications: pressure and heat transfer fluid, dielectric, lubricants (incl. aviation, marine, measuring technology) and processing aids
Miscibility
AK and AS are largely miscible with each other. AP is not miscible with AK.
Which fluid is right for you?
- Standard applications → AK
- Use in extreme cold → AS
- Pressure and heat transfer, lubrication and process applications → AP
Note: The temperature ranges apply to use in a chemically pure environment. Even traces of acids, alkalis or mineral oil can shorten the service life.
